WE'RE HIRING!

As a federally registered not-for-profit organization, GLOCAL is growing our pan-Canadian team across six time zones!

We now have several job openings to work remotely on our digital civic engagement platform, YouCount.ca! Currently vacant are a number of contract positions at GLOCAL, including those for research assistants, social media assistants, data analysts, community outreach officers, web development assistants, and UI/UX designers. These positions may be funded by Innovate BC through their Digital Skills For Youth program and through the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Our fully-virtual workspace strives to accommodate those who have mobility challenges, health concerns, or require flexibility in their hours. It also provides a unique opportunity to work with peers from other parts of the country on a not-for-profit, non-partisan basis.

Social Media Officer

  • Develop, implement and manage GLOCAL’s social media strategy
  • Oversee social media content and measure the success of every social media campaign
  • Ensure that the videos and content creations are consistent with our brand kit, includes logos and are reviewed by the supervisors
  • Facilitate Coordination between Content Research, Infographic creation and Video Production teams
  • Monitor the activity on GLOCAL’s platforms- Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn
  • Review the first draft of infographics and videos, and provide editing feedback to communications assistants
  • Coordinate with different teams to identify potential topics and social media campaign ideas. 
  • Ensure that deadlines are met, be the point person who coordinates with other teams.
  • Attend Bi-Weekly General meetings and team meetings as required.

Immigrants Engagement Officer

  • Support supervisors in developing educational workshops to raise awareness among immigrants and refugees on the Canadian immigration policies and Canadian political system.
  • Conduct outreach and build partnerships with Immigrants and Refugee resettlement organizations/initiatives.
  • Develop ideas for accessible workshops, webinars, social media campaigns for immigrants.
  • Develop databases on statistics related to the ethnicity, language, age groups etc. of immigrant populations across Canada.
  • Identify key areas of support and engagement within the immigrant community.
  • Attend bi-weekly general meetings and team meetings as required.

Overseas Canadians Engagement Officer

  • Develop databases on Canadian consulates, embassies, overseas Canadian organizations and business associations.
  • Conduct outreach and build partnerships with related organizations.
  • Support overseas Canadians in domestic political engagement and federal elections.
  • Conduct outreach and build partnerships with overseas Canadian organizations.
  • Identify key areas of engagement and brainstorm events and workshop ideas to support overseas Canadians during elections.
  • Handle the logistics of the online events and develop a risk management plan.
  • Attend Bi-Weekly General meetings and team meetings as required.

Indigenous Community Engagement Officer

  • Building relationships and establishing dialogues with Indigenous organizations to better understand the perspectives of Indigenous peoples on civic engagement and democratic participation in Canada.
  • Provide recommendations on partnerships with Indigenous organizations to enhance Indigenous participation in the activities of GLOCAL and YouCount.ca.
  • Conduct research on Indigenous governance with the intent to incorporate Indigenous political leadership in the YouCount.ca platform in a respectful and culturally relevant way.
  • Providing support for GLOCAL’s social media engagement, creating infographics and producing short videos on relevant issues.
  • Attend bi-weekly general meetings and team meetings as required.

Research Assistant

  • Work closely with supervisors and supervisors to gather, enter, and analyze data on political representatives at all three levels of government across Canada.
  • Conduct research and understand the political environment of the province. This includes but is not limited to research on local issues, provincial policy concerns and regional politics.
  • During the development process of Election Modules, conduct research on the policy concerns and voter participation in the respective province.
  • Conduct weekly thorough research on legislative updates and present the information in a comprehensible format for our social media knowledge mobilization.
  •  Initiate, lead, and undertake research projects, generating high-quality reports and articles based on research findings.
  • Conduct research on statistics, Canadian political system, healthcare, minority population and policy updates for social media knowledge mobilization.
  •  Attend Bi-Weekly General meetings and team meetings as required

Data Administrator

  • Compiling and analyzing the database on political representatives in all 13 provinces + territories in Canada, as well as at one data administrator working on the federal level for curation on YouCount.ca. Their work is very essential to make sure data accuracy and completeness for the general public in accessing their political representatives.
  • Compiling databases for assigned topics such as a directory of school boards, park boards, political parties, municipality datasets, political participation statistics, government ministries, local civil organizations, immigrants and refugees settlement services, etc.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on data quality and database construction
  • Conduct systematic data quality control as well as perform random checks
  • Analyse survey data and traffic statistics
  • Data entry and maintenance for election data, such as that for candidates, voting statistics, and other relevant data
  • Collaborate with Legislators Engagement Team to update and maintain data at all three levels of government
  • Attend weekly management team meetings, one-on-one weekly meetings with supervisor, and bi-weekly general meetings

Youth Development Coordinator

  • Working with supervisors to engage youth, civil society organizations, schools and universities all across Canada in Canadian civic affairs;
  • Attending and arranging meetings with potential partner organizations and supervisors to ensure the success of the partnership-building process. 
  • Conducting research and developing youth outreach projects which includes online workshops, trivia contests, infographics design contest and events on civic engagement and democratic participation in Canada. 
  • Drafting reports on the evaluation of the youth outreach process and developing ways to improve the process.
  • Work on creative civic engagement on social media platforms and newsletters.
  • Collaborating with other teams such as Social Media Team, Immigrants Engagement Team, Overseas Canadians Engagement Team and Indigenous Engagement Team. 
  • Compile databases for assigned topics such as school boards, university student body governments, youth initiatives etc. 
  • Attending general meetings and team meetings as required.

Regulatory Compliance Officer

  • Developing, implementing and managing the foundation's compliance program
  • Planning, implementing and overseeing risk-related programs.
  • Creating and coordinating proper reporting channels for compliance issues.
  • Writing and distributing company compliance communications.
  • Coordinating and scheduling required compliance training for employees.
  • Attend bi-weekly general meetings and team meetings as required.

UI/UX Designer

  • Brainstorming with the marketing and design team to come up with image ideas. 
  • Preparing and designing rough draft illustrations according to client specifications. Defining any budget or time limitations. Creating complete illustrations by combining painting, hand-drawn and digitally created images. 
  • Refining image design using illustration software. 
  • Enhancing the design concept using a wide range of colors and graphics. 
  • Applying complex isometric techniques to add perspective to design shapes.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS SHOULD HAVE:

  • Good oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  •  A passion for creative writing, community engagement
  •  Experience in reading and understanding academic research is preferred
  • Strong intercultural understanding.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced, flexible working environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Professionalism, punctuality, accountability and reliability.

Volunteer with Us!

As a grassroots team, our initiatives are largely made possible due to our outstanding volunteers!

Volunteer Program 1 – 5 hours per YEAR
Volunteer Program 2 – 5 hours per MONTH
Volunteer Program 3 – 5 hours per WEEK

     

Please note that the '5 hours' specified in each program are meant to be a rough idea of volunteers' time commitment. It is not binding, nor restricted. Every volunteer can work more hours or fewer hours than 5 hours according to their availability. Actual volunteer hours will be recognized accordingly.

Want to Get Involved But Don’t Have Much Time to Commit?

These activities are designed to take a minimum of one hour! 


Filming a 1-2 minute video of a landmark in your city or neighbourhood for our Tik Tok series, 'Where Am I? / Où Suis-Je?'. Audiences will be able guess where your video was taken and digitally experience different parts of Canada!  


Listing 2-3 fun facts about your city, neighbourhood, school, workplace, cultural background, language, and/or community.
 

Helping introduce YouCount.ca to your friends, family, communities, and/or local representatives and if possible, collecting 3-5 suggestions, comments, or feedback on our non-partisan, not-for-profit services.
 

Sharing your professional, academic, personal, or cultural experiences of interest to GLOCAL team members in one of our general bi-weekly meetings.
 

Reviewing collected data prior to it being published on YouCount.ca or social media for accuracy, clarity, and transparency.
 

Testing the features of YouCount.ca and identifying any challenges or errors you encounter as a user.
