How GLOCAL’s Remote Canada Summer Job Program Works

GLOCAL’s Canada Summer Job (CSJ) program is designed to empower youth from across the country to contribute meaningfully to civic engagement—entirely remotely. This means you can work from anywhere in Canada, while collaborating with a diverse and dynamic team of youth leaders, researchers, and professionals.

Key Features of Our Remote Work Model:

  1. Fully Remote & National Collaboration
All positions are remote, enabling nationwide collaboration. Whether you're in a small town or a big city, you can contribute equally and meaningfully to our projects.

  2. Signature Projects to Join or Co-Design

🔍 Signature Project Streams at GLOCAL

Our Canada Summer Job participants can join or co-design projects that fall into the following four streams:

1. Political Theory & Digital Civil Society

Explore foundational ideas behind democracy, citizenship, and digital civic participation. Projects may involve:

  • Researching civic engagement models in Canada and globally
  • Analyzing how digital tools reshape activism, elections, and social movements
  • Developing educational content that demystifies government systems and rights

2. Infrastructure & Public Systems Research

This stream functions like a civic "land survey"—helping to build public understanding of how Canadian systems function. Projects may focus on:

  • Public Health System: Navigation, gaps, and policy analysis
  • Mental Health: Mapping resources, barriers, and public understanding
  • Indigenous Matters in Canada: Truth and reconciliation, treaty rights, and Indigenous-led initiatives
  • Homelessness: Policy landscapes and support systems
  • Judicial System: Access to justice, youth justice issues
  • Overseas Canadians: Civic rights, representation, and mobility
  • Local Governance: Municipal structures, participation tools
  • Agriculture & Food Security
  • Small and Medium Business Landscape in Canada
  • Other social issues: Immigration fraud, climate change adaptation, housing, financial literacy

All projects emphasize credible resource curation and plain-language explanation to support public understanding and future policy work.

3. Knowledge Mobilization (through data storytelling, digital tools, or social media)

Help bring ideas to life through youth-centered communication and engagement. Projects may include:

  • Translating research and data into infographics, short videos, or explainers
  • Community storytelling, data visualization, etc.
  • Creating civic learning toolkits or digital tools

4. Outreach & Community Engagement

Put civic knowledge into action by building bridges across communities and institutions. Tasks may include:

  • Legislator Outreach: Research and invite your MP or local representatives to participate in youth-led initiatives
  • Community Outreach: Partner with communities, schools, or nonprofits to promote civic participation
  • Organize virtual or in-person events showcasing youth initiatives
  • Conduct interviews or focus groups to amplify local voices

Why It Matters

At GLOCAL, Canada Summer Jobs aren’t simulations or narrow training tracks—they’re real-world problem-solving. Youth take on pressing community challenges, requiring a diverse toolbox of skills, critical thinking, and resourceful problem-solving. These roles are incubators for civic leadership, offering hands-on experience in project management, national teamwork, and systems thinking.

This is a special opportunity to learn deeply, build boldly, and give back meaningfully—all while practicing cost efficiency, creative leadership, and national collaboration.
