Join the National Youth Service Network (NYSN)

Where your community service meets civic impact and core career skills development!


Are you a Canadian youth (ages 12–30)?

Looking for a flexible way to make a difference, build skills, and stand out in your school or job applications?


The NYSN isn’t just about volunteering—it’s your launchpad into civic action, project design, social innovations and real-world problem-solving experience.


🎯 What You’ll Do

Over the course of the program, complete a total of 120 hours through 3 exciting modules:


🎓 30 Hours of Training & Civic Exploration (join 20 sessions of the 100 events we offer!)

  • Skill-building workshops in leadership, communications, grants management, design thinking, research, community outreach and cybersecurity, data skills, etc.
  • Prominent guest speakers and top-quality seminars
  • Meet mentors, innovators, and other youth change-makers

💪 60 Hours of Passion-Driven Civic Projects

  • Choose a civic issue that matters to you: education, climate, mental health, culture, justice, or any other non-partisan community issue
  • Volunteer with a local organization, launch your own initiative, or join one of GLOCAL’s six track-based micro-projects: research, data, compliance, outreach, communication, or digital.
    • For example, in the data track, you could contribute to the “Find Your Political Representative” database project, helping collect and verify municipal-level contact information for elected officials across Canada.

🛠️ 30 Hours of Bite-Sized Civic Challenges

  • From our pool of hundreds of fun tasks, try bite-sized “missions” as a youth consultant, digital builder, researcher or designer
  • Tasks might include:
    • Join panel discussions of current public policy topic or community understanding roundtables
    • Analyzing the most recent civic data released by Statistics Canada
    • Designing e-toolkits, community guides or digital tools on topics of community need
    • Interview members of your community to unfold community storytelling
    • Review the government website and provide user experience feedback

🚀 What You’ll Gain

  • Digital certificate for 120 hours of verified civic service signed by the Minister of Jobs and Families 
  • Skill portfolio you can use for school, jobs, or micro-grant applications
  • Mentorship and networking with professionals and peers across Canada
  • Priority access to GLOCAL’s micro-grants, summer jobs, and storytelling initiatives
  • Be part of a nationwide youth movement shaping Canada’s future through service

📅 Flexible & Supportive

  • You can complete the hours at your own pace before December 2026 (the sooner you complete the hours, the sooner you receive the certificate and other recognitions)
  • Mix and match your activities based on your schedule, interests, and skills
  • All you need is curiosity, creativity, commitment, and care for your community

What does a volunteer at GLOCAL do?

Here at GLOCAL Foundation, we aim to empower young Canadians like yourself to be globally aware and locally engaged. By joining our remote volunteering program, you can help us engage with more young Canadians and have the opportunity to participate on digital civic engagement activities and gain experience in public engagement! 

Our Volunteer Programs

As a grassroots team, our initiatives are largely made possible due to our outstanding volunteers!

Volunteer Program 1 – 5 hours per YEAR
Volunteer Program 2 – 5 hours per MONTH
Volunteer Program 3 – 5 hours per WEEK

Please note that the '5 hours' specified in each program are meant to be a rough idea of volunteers' time commitment. It is not binding, nor restricted. Every volunteer can work more hours or fewer hours than 5 hours according to their availability. Actual volunteer hours will be recognized accordingly. 

Want to Get Involved But Don’t Have Much Time to Commit?

These activities are designed to take a minimum of 15 minutes! 


Filming a 1–2 minute video of a landmark in your city or neighbourhood for our TikTok series, 'Where Am I? / Où Suis-Je?'. Audiences will be able to guess where your video was taken and digitally experience different parts of Canada!


Researching 2–3 fun facts about your city, neighbourhood, school, workplace, cultural background, language, and/or community.
 

Helping introduce YouCount.ca to your friends, family, communities, and/or local representatives and if possible, collecting 3–5 suggestions, comments, or feedback on our non-partisan, not-for-profit services.
 

Sharing your professional, academic, personal, or cultural experiences of interest to GLOCAL team members in one of our general bi-weekly meetings.
 

Reviewing collected data prior to it being published on YouCount.ca or social media for accuracy, clarity, and transparency.
 

Testing the features of YouCount.ca and identifying any challenges or errors you encounter as a user.

FC0002. “Sayings in Your Native Language": Share a saying in your native language that represents something unique or special about your culture, way of thinking, or view of the world. Teach us a bit of your language and its meaning!


FC0003. "Must-Try Restaurant in Your City/Town": Recommend a local restaurant or eatery that you believe everyone should try. Share your favourite dish or menu item and describe what makes it a must-try culinary experience.


FC0004. "Hidden Gems of Your Community": Uncover hidden gems in your community that are lesser-known but worth exploring. It could be a beautiful park, a unique local business, or a hidden viewpoint. Share a photo and tell us why these places are special to you.
