National Youth Service Network (NYSN)

Join the National Youth Service Network (NYSN)

Where your community service meets civic impact and core career skills development!

Are you a Canadian youth (ages 12–30)?

Looking for a flexible way to make a difference, build skills, and stand out in your school or job applications?

The NYSN isn’t just about volunteering—it’s your launchpad into civic action, project design, social innovations and real-world problem-solving experience.

🎯 What You’ll Do

Over the course of the program, complete a total of 120 hours through 3 exciting modules:

🎓 30 Hours of Training & Civic Exploration (join 20 sessions of the 100 events we offer!)

  • Skill-building workshops in leadership, communications, grants management, design thinking, research, community outreach and cybersecurity, data skills, etc.
  • Prominent guest speakers and top-quality seminars
  • Meet mentors, innovators, and other youth change-makers

💪 60 Hours of Passion-Driven Civic Projects

  • Choose a civic issue that matters to you: education, climate, mental health, culture, justice, or any other non-partisan community issue
  • Volunteer with a local organization, launch your own initiative, or join one of GLOCAL’s six track-based micro-projects: research, data, compliance, outreach, communication, or digital.
    • For example, in the data track, you could contribute to the “Find Your Political Representative” database project, helping collect and verify municipal-level contact information for elected officials across Canada.

🛠️ 30 Hours of Bite-Sized Civic Challenges

  • From our pool of hundreds of fun tasks, try bite-sized “missions” as a youth consultant, digital builder, researcher or designer
  • Tasks might include:
    • Join panel discussions of current public policy topic or community understanding rountables
    • Analyzing the most recent civic data released by Statistics Canada
    • Designing e-toolkits, community guides or digital tools on topics of community need
    • Interview members of your community to unfold community storytelling
    • Review the government website and provide user experience feedback

🚀 What You’ll Gain

  • Digital certificate + recognition letter for 120 hours of verified civic service signed by the Minister of Women, Gender Equality and Youth
  • Skill portfolio you can use for school, jobs, or micro-grant applications
  • Mentorship and networking with professionals and peers across Canada
  • Priority access to GLOCAL’s micro-grants, summer jobs, and storytelling initiatives
  • Be part of a nationwide youth movement shaping Canada’s future through service

📅 Flexible & Supportive

  • You can complete the hours at your own pace before December 2026 (the sooner you complete the hours, the sooner you receive the certificate and other recognitions)
  • Mix and match your activities based on your schedule, interests, and skills
  • All you need is curiosity, creativity, commitment, and care for your community
